The postage stamp sized GEMs that accompany the 10x10cm GEM sheets have been used to provide initial feedback regarding the electron amplification that can be expected in various environmental conditions.

Version 1 GEMs were mounted identically to version 0 GEMs, with identical electrical connections as well.

The major change in the setup was the equipotential plane. The version 1 GEMs will be placed in a vacuum chamber to allow for tests at reduced pressures. A layer of kapton tape has replaced a copper foil. This kapton tape will secure the gamma source as well as insulate it from the drift field.
