TALENT

Training in Advanced Low Energy Nuclear Theory

Nuclear TALENT

Course 7: Nuclear Theory for Astrophysics

Week 3

Monday, June 9, 2014

  • Gail 1: Review of potential r-process sites
  • George 1: Neutrinos, the weak interaction, and primordial nucleosynthesis I
  • Will discuss decoupling and freeze-out of particles in the early universe, with special emphasis on neutrino decoupling

Tuesday, June 10, 2014

  • Gail 2: Weak interactions in the r-process
  • George 2: Neutrinos, the weak interaction, and primordial nucleosynthesis II
  • Continuation of lecture (1), but now with an emphasis on the coupling of neutrinos and isospin, and therefore nucleosynthesis

Wednesday, June 11, 2014

  • Gail 3: Role of nuclear data in determining the abundance pattern
  • George 3: Weak Interaction pre-, peri- and post-collapse
  • Will discuss weak interaction physics during pre-collapse, hydrostatic evolution; the nuclear and weak interaction physics of collapse

Thursday, June 12, 2014

  • Will discuss neutrino flavor oscillations, neutrino spin flip, and other issues in neutrino physics relevant for nuclear astrophysics
  • George 5: Outstanding issues in neutrino physics, compact object physics, and cosmology
  • Will explore how models of core collapse supernova/compact object merger r-process nucleosynthesis and issues in primordial nucleosynthesis and the cosmic microwave background could be impacted by new neutrino sector physics
