(Pre-Course Assignment)

Download, compile and run the Hydrodynamics Code

  1. Download the VH1.0 Hydrodynamics Code.
  2. Compile the code with your fortran90 compiler.
  3. Report in the Hydrodynamics Code discussion thread your success with machine information.
  4. Read the Quick Start guide.
    1. Run the shock tube problem set up for beginners.
    2. Plot and compare your results to the expected solution.
  5. Read the Inside the code guide.

Compiled and ran with MinGW using gfortran 4.8.1. Had to execute “gfortran vhone.o” rather than ./vhone to produce data files. In order to view the data files written had to run vh1-beg application. Files written produce plot which matches QuickStart.

Compiled with gcc 4.6.3 on Xubuntu 12.04 and ran it. Also tried to compile the serial code and after some problems with the netcdf library I was able to compile it.

Compiled on my Mac OS X 10.7.5 using gfortran 4.8.2. Following the online tutorial (“Quick Start”) with VH-0.5, the executable is vh1-beg and the output files are named NCState####.dat. Successfully reproduced the plot.

Compiled and ran on Ubuntu 12.04. Only VH05 ran smoothly. After installing the netcdf library and its dependencies I still had problems compiling VH1.

Linux version 3.7.10-1.28-default, gcc version 4.7.2, ifort Version 11.0. VH0.5 and VH1-starter were done. However, I failed to compile the Serial. Trying to install netcdf but unsuccessful. Need some help when we meet.
