Accessing NSCL Services Remotely

Many of applications at the NSCL can be accessed remotely. The IT department keeps an updated document here

  • Your NSCL email (the one that ends in nscl.msu.edu) can be accessed through the web at: exchange.nscl.msu.edu
  • To access your account on the Linux machines you can SSH into the gateway machines (nsclgw1.nscl.msu.edu or nsclgw2.nscl.msu.edu).
    • For setting up SSh keys see the NSCL documentation or the better external site
    • If you also always ssh directly inyo fishtank you can use the flag -J to tunnel directly through the gateway ie ssh -J anthonya@nsclgw1.nscl.msu.edu -XY anthonya@fishtank
  • Also available remotely are many of the windows application such as Mathematica, MatLab, and even a copy of Firefox that treats you as if you were on site (allows access to portal and enterprise)!
    • To access them you must use the Citrix Remote Application Server.
    • To use the server log into Citrix Reciever (with your Windows password)
    • From here, you should be able to access apps of-site
  • Remote desktop is also available. Instructions for setting it up can be found here. Note that for first time setup you will need the name of your computer. Typically this is USERNAME, ie ANTHONYA.
