Travel Information

Important Health Insurance Info

If you are planning to travel to a foreign country on NSCL business, you will automatically be signed up for a travel insurance plan through HTH Worldwide Accident and Sickness Insurance. This plan lasts for the duration of your trip, and supplements your regular health insurance and MSU's standard FrontierMEDEX 24/7 emergency medical, security and travel assistance program (which you will also be signed up for). This HTH Worldwide Insurance plan covers routine medical expenses, accidental death and dismemberment, medical evacuation, and repatriation, while the FrontierMEDEX plan focuses on emergency services and travel assistance, including medical evacuation, repatriation and personal assistance services. For more information, see the flyer below.

Because of this insurance plan, it is important to plan international travel early! It is best to start planning at least 4 weeks in advance to allow time for the insurance plan to be processed. Once signup is complete, you will receive an insurance ID card and a brochure with information about what to do in case of an emergency while traveling abroad.

Note: If you choose to extend your trip abroad for personal travel, the HTH Worldwide plan will only cover the time spent on NSCL business. The insurance can be extended to cover your personal travel time as well, but that must be arranged (and paid for) directly with HTH Worldwide. The lab cannot pay for insurance for your personal travel, so if you do plan to extend your stay, please be clear about that in your travel authorization paperwork. You can arrange to extend the coverage into your personal travel by calling 1-888-243-2358.
